DoorDash Names Its 2026 Top Pizza Spots and Most Ordered Style

Forty independent pizzerias made the list. The ordering data behind it is the more useful read for anyone who makes pizza at home.

DoorDash has released its 2026 Top Pizza Spots list, naming 40 small and medium-sized pizzerias across the country based on customer ratings. The company paired the list with a year of ordering data, and two numbers stand out: white pizza was the most-ordered style on the platform in 2025, and New York-style orders grew more than 80% year over year.

The list itself is a popularity measure, not a judged ranking. The data underneath it is a decent snapshot of what Americans actually put on their pizza.

Key facts

  • What: DoorDash’s Battle of the Slices 2026, a list of 40 top-rated local pizzerias, 10 in each of four US regions.
  • When: Published October 13, 2026, for National Pizza Month.
  • Who qualified: Pizzerias with fewer than 10 locations, at least 1,000 DoorDash reviews and the highest average ratings from September 2025 through September 2026.
  • The number that matters: More than 3 million DoorDash orders in 2025 were white pizza, the platform’s most-ordered style.
  • Who got shut out: No pizzeria in New York City, Los Angeles or Connecticut made the list.

What DoorDash published

The DoorDash announcement groups the 40 pizzerias by region (Midwest, Northeast, South and West) rather than ranking them against each other. To qualify, a restaurant needed fewer than 10 locations and at least 1,000 reviews. The top average ratings over a 12-month window decided who made the cut.

DoorDash does not say how it weighted those factors. It also only sees its own orders, so a beloved shop that skips delivery apps never shows up here.

The format changed from last year. The 2025 edition named 50 pizzerias across just five states: California, Connecticut, Illinois, Michigan and New York. As PMQ Pizza Magazine points out, this year’s list is smaller but goes national, covering 15 states plus Washington, DC.

“What I love about pizza is how local it is,” said Ruth Isenstadt, who leads DoorDash’s US restaurant business, in the release.

Where the 40 pizzerias are

The map is heavier in the middle of the country and in Pennsylvania than most best-pizza lists. Here is how the states with more than one entry break down:

StateSpotsIncludes
California8Golden Boy, Little Star and Outta Sight (San Francisco), Zachary’s Chicago Pizza (Oakland)
Pennsylvania6Dough Head and Rosario’s (Philadelphia), Lione’s (Downingtown)
Ohio5Brenz Pizza Co (Columbus), Kraus’ (Massillon), IL Gusto (Cincinnati)
Illinois4Happy Camper, Jimmy’s Pizza Cafe, Piece, Robert’s (all Chicago)
Texas4Home Slice (Houston), Market Street (Austin), Stefano’s (Pharr)
New York2Gino’s NY Pizza (Buffalo), The Pizzeria (Bayport)
Oregon2Baby Doll Pizza and Rudy’s Gourmet Pizza (Portland)

Single entries came from Michigan, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Oklahoma, Virginia, Alabama, North Carolina, South Carolina and Washington, DC.

The shutouts drew the local headlines. Time Out New York noted that neither New York entry is in the five boroughs. Time Out Los Angeles reported that all eight California spots sit in the Bay Area or Central California. Connecticut, home of New Haven apizza, had 10 spots last year and none this year.

Chicago did well. Time Out Chicago describes the city’s four as a mix: creative thin crust at Happy Camper, foldable New York-style slices at Jimmy’s, New Haven-style pies at Piece and slow-fermented crusts at Robert’s. PMQ notes Robert’s also made last year’s list.

Americans ordered pineapple more often than olives, bacon, chicken or ham.

The ordering data

The statistics cover DoorDash orders from January through December 2025, compared with 2024. The rankings use a different window, so the two halves of the release measure different things.

Customers placed nearly 30 million pizza orders on the platform in 2025. Pepperoni was the most-ordered topping, followed by onion and sausage. Orders with caramelized onions and meatballs each grew more than 120%.

On styles, white pizza led with more than 3 million orders. New York-style was the fastest-growing major style at more than 80%, and stuffed crust grew more than 45%. DoorDash did not explain how it sorts orders into styles, and white pizza can mean very different pies from one menu to the next. Treat the style figures as directional.

And the line that will start arguments at the table: pineapple outsold olives, bacon, chicken and ham. Make of that what you will.

Why this matters for home cooks

Delivery data shows what people pay for when they skip cooking. Most of the fastest risers are things a home oven handles well, and a few are cheaper to make yourself than to order.

Caramelized onions are the sleeper. A 120% jump suggests people want them but rarely make them. They take time, not skill, and the approach in caramelized onions for pizza covers the slow method and a faster cheat. Make a batch on Sunday and they top pizzas all week.

New York-style is the one to practice. It was the fastest-growing major style, and two of the Chicago picks are New York or New Haven style. The base dough and bake are in making New York-style pizza at home. For the charred Connecticut cousin, see the New Haven apizza guide.

Stuffed crust is easier than it looks. A 45% rise means plenty of people are paying extra for it. The homemade stuffed crust method walks through the fold and seal step by step.

Pepperoni still wins. If it is going on anyway, make it count with cup and char pepperoni, and shred your mozzarella from a block. Bagged shreds carry anti-caking starch and melt worse.

If you track pizza rankings, this list measures something different from the judged 50 Top Pizza results from September. That list reflects inspectors. This one reflects repeat customers ordering from their couch.

What to watch next

DoorDash has now run the list two years in a row with different formats, so it is not yet clear whether the regional, national version sticks. Watch also for whether rival platforms publish their own ordering data during National Pizza Month, which would show whether the white pizza and New York-style numbers hold up outside one app.
